“The Recruitment scene is becoming more “consultative” – both our Clients and Candidates have preferred a consultative approach where we provide advisory work, rather than a traditional or transactional approach.”

Get to know Dympna Wong, Director, Asia – ArcBlue Search

What project has been the most fun / the meatiest to work on at ArcBlue?

I had the opportunity to revamp all the Business Terms which I felt could make more commercial sense to our Clients and ArcBlue as a business. I also relaunched our Search business across Asia, which allowed me to introduce a Recruitment System for ArcBlue – this was really exciting as it involved massive integration and training across the entire business (Search & Consulting).

How do you spend most of your days?

My day mainly revolves around 3 things – developing the different members in my team, Business Development / Key Account Management and managing the Search business for Asia.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am focusing on further strengthening ArcBlue Search’s competencies in the region and at the same time growing our business in Asia.

What trends do you see in your work?

The employment market is evolving and as Recruitment Consultants, we too need to evolve to fit our clients’ needs intimately. The Recruitment scene is becoming more “consultative” – both our Clients and Candidates have preferred a consultative approach where we provide advisory work, rather than a traditional or transactional approach. This approach has allowed us to foster a stronger relationship with both our Clients as well as Candidates.

What do you love best about recruitment in the Technical space (Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics, Quality, Regulatory Affairs & Engineering)?

I started my career as a Recruitment Consultant over 8 years ago, specialising in Procurement & Supply Chain and I have only seen the demand in this area surge through the years. Especially with the Covid-19 crisis, the need in the Procurement & Supply Chain industry is more pronounced than ever and this has given a new dimension to my work. I have also been able to expand my scope to take on regional searches in other domains which allowed me to tackle Quality & Regulatory Affairs positions – this has enabled me to provide a full suite of hiring solutions to my Clients and reach out to even more Candidates.

What’s the one thing you wish everyone would understand about recruitment in the Technical space?

Procurement & Supply Chain is more dominant in the job market than most people are aware of, and the roles are not just confined to Manufacturing or Life Sciences industries. A lot of demand is actually also found in the FMCG and Professional Services sectors.

What are you currently trying to upskill in?

I am currently interested in topics related to “Effective Working from Home Arrangements” as well as “How to be an Effective Leader, Working from Home.” This scenery of WFH is likely to stay with us to varying degrees, even when normalcy returns to our daily routines. As a Leader, I need to keep an open approach in hybrid working models that will be effective for me and beneficial to my team.

What’s the reason you love to work at ArcBlue?

I love the egalitarian culture and there is a lot of autonomy given to each individual across the business. We are very big on Diversity & Inclusion, and Empowerment.

What is something not many people know about you?

I have very extreme sides to my persona – at work, I am very professional, well-organised and results-oriented; outside of work I switch off and live for the moment.
