“On top of technical expertise, job applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent communications skills while showcasing an ability to thrive in fast-paced and agile environments.”
Get to know Nelly Ah-Kang, Manager for ArcBlue Search
How did you end up here? What is your professional background?
I joined ArcBlue in October 2023 after 5+ years with a multinational recruitment firm in Singapore. I have been headhunting since 2015, where I started off recruiting for the financial services industry for 2 years; after which, I picked up an interest in the tech field handling Infrastructure-related roles where I spend more than 5 years recruiting for clients across various industries. ArcBlue gave me the opportunity to broaden my headhunting career, covering roles beyond Singapore.
How do you spend most of your days?
My days are centered around partnering our trusted clients and working closely with them to find the best-fitted candidates for their positions. If I am not on the phone qualifying candidates’ experience and fit, you will find me meeting with clients or candidates online or offline to discuss on market trends/talent pipelining.
What are you working on at the moment?
I currently have a few procurement-related openings as well as corporate functions roles such as IT and account management roles. For more details, feel free to check out our careers portal.
What trends do you see in your work?
Singapore being a key hub in the APAC region, the employment market for both strategic and operational positions is still active. The country has seen an increasing number of regional and global positions shifted here as a result of various political and economic factors. On top of technical expertise, job applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent communications skills while showcasing an ability to thrive in fast-paced and agile environments.
What do you enjoy about working in recruitment?
I enjoy working in recruitment as I get to understand how various companies operate in finding the best fitted candidates for their teams. Nothing beats the feeling of having the opportunity to make a positive impact on solving companies’ issues in their hiring while assisting candidates to advance in their careers/skillsets. It can sometimes be a rollercoaster ride, full of ups and downs, but with the right environment, you get to enjoy navigating through them!
What is the one thing you wish everyone would understand about recruitment?
Recruitment is such a dynamic field that goes more than just matching a job requirement to a candidate (and vice-versa) – it’s about developing a strong understanding of the market/function you are recruiting for and opening up possibilities based on the professionals’ skills and aspirations. It’s not a one-size-fits-all kind of work and that’s what keeps me going!
How long have you been at ArcBlue? What made you join us?
It’s now been 6 months as an Arcie – time flies! I was drawn to ArcBlue as I wanted to join a team that is specialised and focused on providing a strong customer-centric approach in their work.
What’s the reason you love to work at ArcBlue?
2 reasons for me: great team and support and trust from my management.
And even though it is my personal preference to work in the office, I have the flexibility to work from home, which I won’t take for granted!
What’s something not many people know about you?
I’ve been based in Singapore for close to 10 years now, but originally from Reunion Island, a French island off the coast of Madagascar. I love to travel to less-travelled places and have been to countries like Mongolia, Caucasus, Sri Lanka and hoping to go to Antarctica one day!
What can we normally find you doing on the weekend?
I was recently busy in preparing and renovating my new house but otherwise, I would usually be hanging out with my family and friends over a nice meal or working out at the gym.
